JAMM Executive Director Job Posting

The Executive Director provides strategic leadership, manages funding, and oversees operations and administration of the organization. Working in collaboration with the Board of Directors and staff, the Executive Director is responsible for:
Leadership and Vision:  Ensure the organization is engaging in long-range strategy that achieves its mission and provides leadership in building organizational systems and structures. Includes:
  • Implementing and maintaining the use of demonstrated best practices, cultivating core values, ensuring that the organization’s mission aligns with the El Sistema model.
  • Working with Program Director and Community Liaisons to develop and maintain relationships with El Sistema partners and community stakeholders for program sustainment and growth.
  • Leading the Community Liaison and board members to advocate for JAMM in the community; articulating and communicating the value of music education in improving our quality of life and promoting community support of music education and the JAMM program.
  • Participating in online webinars and discussions with program partners, in collaboration with Program Director or board when appropriate. 
Fundraising and Communications: Oversee and implement a comprehensive development plan, build and maintain relationships with donors, and ensure the organization effectively markets itself and its program to prospective students, families, schools, donors, and other constituencies. Includes:
  • Developing and executing an annual fundraising plan which will target foundations, major gifts, sponsors and a nation-wide campaign of individual support.
  • Researching, writing, and submitting grant applications, tracking grant funding, and writing reports.
  • Developing relationships and maintaining communication with grant funders.
  • Maintaining a donor database, entering donations, sending receipts, and thank you letters.
  • Working with PD and Admin Assistant to publicize concerts and events, and sharing program impact via social media, newsletters, and the website.
Financial Management and Fiscal Oversight: Work with the board to maintain the fiscal security of the organization and ensure sound financial practices. Includes:
  • Developing and managing the financial strategies of the organization.
  • Working with Program Director and Board Treasurer to develop an annual budget for approval by the Board.
  • Overseeing the management of all funds and working with the bookkeeper.
Board Engagement: Keep the Board well-informed regarding the management and condition of the organization and encourage high participation, collaboration, and communication of Board members. Includes:
  • Developing and implementing the organization’s Strategic Plan and annual action plans in conjunction with the Board.
  • Attending monthly board meetings and preparing reports in advance. 
  • Meeting with the board chair to plan meetings and the board retreat. 
  • Assisting the board with recruitment, orientation, training, and systems.
Staff Management and Program Oversight: 
  • Maintain a positive and strong organizational culture; managing, coaching, mentoring, and motivating staff; developing strategies for building, sustaining, and evaluating programming; support program activities as needed. Including:
  • Evaluating program sites for continuity, safety, culture.
  • Directing and supporting the Program Director, Admin Assistant, and Community Liaisons.
Desired QualificationsWe are seeking a structured, proactive leader who is passionate about our mission and eager to drive our fundraising efforts. While experience is valued, a strong aptitude and a desire to learn new skills quickly are highly essential for success in this role.
  • Fundraising & Grant Management: A primary focus of this position is securing organizational funding. Experience in grant writing, individual donor campaigns, or major gifts is a significant asset; alternatively, candidates must demonstrate the ability and drive to learn these systems rapidly.
  • Organizational Excellence: Exceptional time-management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple overlapping deadlines, maintain databases, and oversee administrative workflows independently.
  • Team Leadership: Experience or strong capability in supervising personnel (including our part-time Program Director, Community Liaisons, and Administrative Assistant) and collaborating productively with a Board of Directors. 
Compensation & Structure
  • Salary: DOQ
  • Schedule: Three-quarter time with a flexible schedule.
  • Benefits: None.
  • Location: 100% Work from Home, with occasional local travel for events, site visits, and board meetings as required.
