Day One (In Class): Introduction of Jazz History

Spider-Man: Jazz Version

Check out Putumayo Kids Presents: Jazz Playground doing their own version of Spider-Man (starting at 2:40):

Introduction

In this unit, we will be learning about jazz music and its different styles, while thinking about how music tells a story about who we are. It is important to think about the context of jazz music from its beginning until the present. Context means the set of facts or circumstances that are in a specific situation or setting.
Jazz music was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in the southeast part of the United States in the 1800's. It was created by slaves who were brought all the way from Africa to New Orleans.
