Introduction to Music Theory

Picture
This spring, JAMM is offering an Introduction to Music Theory course. The class will cover musical intervals, key identification, chordal analysis, and will culminate in students composing and performing their own works in a small end-of-class concert. The course will be in-person at Kax̱dig̱oowu Héen, 6-6:45pm; Prelude Ensemble musicians are encouraged to participate, and snacks all be provided between the Music Theory Class and Prelude rehearsal.
This course is free for all 6th-12 grade participants.

Here are the details:
  • Time: Class will take place on Monday nights from 6:00-6:45 PM.
  • Where: Kax̱dig̱oowu Héen Elementary School, Music Room.
  • Date:  Class will meet  February 3-April 28.
  • Who the class is for: While the course is likely most appropriate for 6th-12 grade musicians, some exceptions could apply. Please reach out to Elena Levi at [email protected] if this might be the case for your student- they can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Instructor: The course will be hosted by Elena Levi, who obtained degrees in music theory and composition at Boston University and has studied with world-class composers such as Ketty Nez, Joshua Fineberg, and Missy Mazzoli. Elena currently teaches violin/ viola at Thrush Hill Music Studio, is a JAMM Teaching Artist, a Juneau Symphony Musician, and an activeperformer and composer in the Juneau community.
